Utilisation of organic waste liquor with a high carbohydrate content, especially from industries producing starch, involves conversion to a culture medium for micro-organisms by purification from solids and sterile filtration. After transfer to a fermenter, the material is inoculated with carbohydrate-reducing micro-organisms and the cell culture is left for several days, then discharged from the fermenter. The micro-organisms are removed from the purified waste liquor and worked up.
