摘要

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the lifestyle pattern associated to diabetes risk in Area 7, Madrid, Spain. Research design and methods: MOPOR Study is a prospective, case-control, clinic-based with 245 newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetic (T2D) patients between 2007 and 2008 and 24 7 age-adjusted controls. Lifestyle risk factors, physical activity level and dietary patterns, were assessed by a frequency questionnaire. Results: New onset Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) subjects were more frequently exposed to individually lifestyle patterns associated with diabetes risk as compared with control subjects, excluding usual walking habits and olive oil intake that were similar in both groups. A lifestyle score >5 was associated with a 52% lower risk of diabetes (OR 0.48; 95% CI 0.25-0.90), a nutrition score and a total nutrition score >0 were associated with a 74% (OR 0.26; 95% CI 0.16-0.40) and 63% (OR 0.37; 95% CI 0.23-0.59) lower diabetes risk, respectively. In addition, a low glycemic index score, fiber score and PUFAs score and SFAs score >0 were associated with 64%, 38%, 55%, and 42% lower risk of diabetes respectively. Conclusion: Our study identifies, with an easy-to-use questionnaire, cut off points of individual and combined lifestyle factors associated with lower diabetes risk in a Mediterranean country. These data should be used when planning preventative strategies to reduce diabetes mellitus risk in a Mediterranean country.
