This monograph presents the first worldwide higher-level revision of the subfamily Centrotinae, the largest and only cosmopolitan subfamily within the treehopper family Membracidae (Insecta: Hemiptera). This subfamily includes all Old World treehoppers (187 genera) as well as 29 New World genera (a total of nearly 1350 species). Historically, separate artificial classifications had been derived for these major regions. So formidable was the taxonomic chaos that no previous worker had attempted a comparative tribal-level study on a global scale.
