Nearly three-quarters of searches using web sites' own search enginers are unsuccessful, according to a global web site search-usability study under-taken by Infonic for software company Alber. UK-based sites fared worst across almost all test criteria in the study, but overall the majority of the 100 web sites surveyed were found to perform poorly both in terms of relevant search results and quality of display and format. US web sites performed only marginally better than the rest.
