An Object-oriented, individual-based model of interactions between gypsy moth and the biological insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis is being developed. This model simulates the interactions between spray deposit characteristics (potency, droplet density and size spectrum) on host plant foliage, weather, and the feeding and developmental physiology of the insect. The individual-based nature of the model allows considerable detail in the description of these interactions and in tracking of individual intoxication histories. This model is intended as a central component of pest management decision support tools aimed at optimizing spray applications against this insect.
