28,543. Donard, E., and LabbÚ, H. Dec. 24. Food preparations.-Maize or maize residues, which are to be treated as described in Specification No. 8876, A.D. 1902, for the preparation of albuminoid food products, are dried and preliminarily extracted by diffusion with benzene, petroleum ether, &c. to remove greasy and oily matters. The main process is also modified by extracting the preliminarily-purified raw material with ethyl or methyl alcohol, or a mixture of these with or without acetone, concentrating the solution, and precipitating by the addition of water &c. with or without sea-salt. The albuminous substance precipitated consists of hydrates of two albuminoids, of which one only was obtained in the prior process, and may be dried at a low temperature.
