The firearm has a crosshead for supporting the firearm against a shoulder and/or a cheek of a shooter. A damping jack is connected to a body and a butt plate (6) of the crosshead. The jack has oil chambers (17, 18) that are in internal communication by a calibrated oil passage (19), where volume of one of the chambers is decreased under the effect of displacement of a piston (14), while volume of the other chamber is increased. The jack is placed such that the crosshead descends from the shoulder and/or the cheek of the shooter during shooting.
