The isolator (1) has a Faraday-rotator (4) arranged between input and output polarization filters (2, 3). The rotator comprises a disk-shaped Faraday-element (5), a reflector (10) e.g. parabolic mirror, and a magnet (7), where the reflector is spaced from a front side (16) of the Faraday-element. A laser beam (15) runs from the front side through the Faraday-element based on reflection at the reflector, and is reflected at a rear side (14) of the Faraday-element. The laser beam is passed through the input polarization filter. An independent claim is also included for a laser comprising a laser source for producing a laser beam.
