There is provided a fluorescence system for monitoring the quality of water, the fluorescence system comprising an array of excitation sources, an array of a plurality of emission photodetectors and a signal processor. In the array of excitation circles, each excitation source provides respective excitation source optical signaling at each illumination wavelength. The arrangement of the plurality of emitted photodetectors detects a plurality of emission wavelengths emitted from water containing information about a plurality of coexisting fluorescent species present in the water, wherein the plurality of coexisting fluorescent species are provided from an array of excitation sources And emits light rays at at least two different wavelengths when illuminated by respective illumination wavelengths. The arrangement of the plurality of emitted photodetectors also provides a plurality of emitted photodetector signaling containing information about the plurality of coexisting fluorescent species.
