The anterior pituitary gland of the Fischer 344 rats provides an excellent experimental model for the study of oestrogen angiogenic action in pituitary prolactinoma induction Thalidomide is known to be a potent immuno-modulatory drug with antiangiogenic properties, but its effect on lactotroph cell secretory function and pituitary prolactinoma formation has not been described yet.Aim of the study: In the present paper, we have examined the effect of thalidomide on PRL and VEGF secretion as well as cell proliferation in primary anterior pituitary cell culture.
