For many years, the problem of pathogenesis of hyperplastic processes including endometriosis has been associated with the development of "estrogen theory" [1], [2]. Comprehensive studies of the role of estorgen receptor (ER) signaling and estrogen metabolism in the pathogenesis of proliferative processes are of particular interest [3]. Proliferative effect is caused by either altered ER signaling that leads to changes in downstream gene expression, or - by altered estrogen concentration caused by cytochrome P450 (CYP) - mediated metabolic activation that results in genotoxic effects of metabolites [1].
