May 02, 1954 Extremely upsetting start to the day. I have repeatedly instructed our servants on the importance of right angles at breakfast - the L-shaped croissant, the rectilinear omelette - but it is as the English say 'through both ears and out of the arse'. Yes, my fried eggs are perfectly square in plan; alas the central yolks remain hideously globular. They are inedible, unseeable, intolerable. Servants = a burdensome calamity!
