Industrial production. The size of industrial output increased in June 2003 by 0.9% against May, which corresponds to its decrease by 0.5%, excluding an influence of the seasonal factor. So far, we consider this negative change, the first for the last seven months, as continuation of the process of slowdown in the growth of the size of industrial output by tendency, having appeared one month earlier. At the same time, the increased rates of the growth by tendency, taking place in the initial months of this year, provided a rather big reserve for a quite good annual result. The gain of industrial production resulted in the first half-year 2003, in comparison with the similar period last year, to be 6.8%. The output size of fuel industry increased by 10% in comparison with the similar period of the previous year. It is the highest indicator among all the sectors. The most important factor of development of the fuel sector consisted in high world prices of petroleum. The sensitivity to the situation in the world markets of power resources is quite explainable, as, for the first half-year, 67% of all petroleum extracted in Russia was exported for abroad. For the first six months of 2003, the size of oil extraction had grown by 11.3% to 196 million tons, and the output of oil-refining industry had increased by 4.7%. The stable development of oil-extracting industry was provided by the growing internal demand for some oil products, in particular, gasoline and lubricant oils whose output increased by 4.5% and 12.4%, respectively. The size of output of gas industry increased for the first half-year 2003 by 4.9%, and in coal mining, it grew by 12.5%.
