In order to reduce the carrying cost of Rafale figh-ter aircraft M88 engine, Snecma has drawn up speci-fications for a new superalloy which could replace the N18 alloy currently used for high pressure compressor and turbine disk applications. The aims are to:- increase the service life and also time between inspections,- make use beyond 650°C possible.The improvements concern both mechanical and metallurgical features. The goal is to increase overs-peed (improvement of tensile strength properlies) and fatigue resistance while maintaining creep and crack propagation resistance. On the other hand, forming and heat treatment abilities which govern the mechanical properties must be improved.
