An article in the Kansas City Star on February 1, quoting a survey by Inktomi and NEC Research Institute, described the amazing growth of the internet. The Web contained about 60 million pages of information in late 1996. In 1997, information content of the Web was at 320 million pages. In 1999, that had increased to 600 million pages. Currently, the web has more than 1 billion pages. I just played with that information on the calculator. A ream of paper (500 pages) is about two inches thick. Dividing one billion pages by 500 pages per reams calculates out to about 2 million reams.
