In February, the last concrete pour of the tunnel section under King Fahd Flyover took place marking the completion of the cut-and-cover tunnel being constructed in the heart of the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh. The project itself is a significant undertaking by Arriyadh Development Auth ority (ADA) with the aim to increase the King Abdullah Road capacity from the current 190,000 to 520,000 vehicles a day. This will be achieved by increasing the width of the existing road corridor and grade separating the key junctions. In addition to increasing the vehicle capacity of the road, provision has been made for a future light- rail corridor within the tunnel.
