1714 Trenchard Street, a new 484-unit student accommodation development in Bristol for Unite Students, has been an exciting and challenging project. The scheme, working with project manager RG Group, involved the redevelopment of the former Bristol Entertainment Centre - a 1960s complex complete with rooftop ice rink - to provide the student accommodation units across eight storeys. Part of the project was to construct five levels of accommodation above an existing, occupied events building known as the 02 Academy. In general, bridging over occupied buildings would entail heavy, prefabricated, structural steelwork that would be installed using heavy lifting equipment.
