The volatile components of Echiochilon fruticosum Desf., growing as a wild Egyptian plant, revealed the presence of 36 components from which 21 were identified, the main component is 1H -indene -4- carboxylic acid reaching about 21.52% of the total oil content. One pyrrolizidine alkaloid was isolated from chloroform extract of Echiochilon fruticosum Desf and identified as desacetyl dor-onine by spectroscopic analysis. Five flavonoids were investigated in the phenolic part of this plant, 2 isoflavone compounds: 5-deoxyvitexin and 5, 7-dimethoxy isoflavone. 2 dihydroflavonol: dihydroborobinetin and garbanzol, and the fifth is 5,6,7 - trihydroxy flavanone, their structure were determined by U.V. and ~1Hnmr spectrosocpy.
