摘要

The technique of gammadensitometry, based on the phenomenon of gamma-ray absorption by matter, is used to auscultate specimens without their destruction and then monitor the evolution of their density vs. depth and with respect to a reference state. In the area of concrete durability, two phenomena in particular lead to significant mass variations: water loss during drying, and the fixation of carbon dioxide during carbonation. The method employed to determine the drying and carbonation profiles by gammadensitometry is presented and its advantages highlighted. Following a description of this measurement technique, the accuracy of drying profiles is improved by taking into account the variations of the absorption coefficient as a function of water content The direct computation of porosity and saturation rate is then introduced. The carbonation profiles obtained for various concretes get validated and analyzed at the end of the article, in comparison with both the thermogravimetric analysis and the spraying of a pH-indicator.
