Australian fisheries management involves three Commonwealth government departments, a complex network of organisational arrangements under international and regional conventions and agreements. It involves/ a complex pattern of individual and shared responsibilities for the Commonwealth, the States and the Northern Territory regarding Commonwealth fisheries which are generally offshore, State and Territory fisheries that are generally near shore and adjacent Commonwealth waters and fisheries which occur in multiple jurisdictions.
