The use of explosives in fishing is a major problem affecting coral reef areas in Malaysia (especially in Sabah waters), the Philippines and Indonesia. Acknowledging the problem, for the first time a symposium was organised in Malaysia by the Sabah Parks Authority, Marine Conservation Society UK, the Sabah State Action Committee on Anti-Fish Bombing, and the World Wide Fund for Nature-Malaysia. The symposium was held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah from 22-23 February 2012.
