摘要

The first special edition "Exploring Architectural Science in the Context of Cultural Sustainability" brought together research works that were illustrating the Cultural Sustainability research framework (Hyde 2015). This second edition examines the issues of vernacular architecture bringing together research work delving into various cultural interpretations of sustainability from different parts of the world, with diverse environmental and climate characteristics. I want to raise few questions since there is not yet a broad agreement about the concept used for sustainability, mostly when examining the cultural perspectives of the concept. For example, what is the value in researching different cultural perspectives which have different geographies, different sources of local materials and different building traditions? At this exciting moment of the creation of a new field, I find it is worthwhile to elaborate a bit on the concept of culture.
