A critical capability in oceanographic investigations is the ability o directly view biologic and geologic processes occurring on the sea floor. The U.S. Geological Survey developed the Seabed Observation and Sampling System (SEABOSS) to rapidly and effectively collect images and sediment samples. The elegant system design permits ease of mobilization and operation and allows SEABOSS to be deployed from any moderately sized platform. Replaceable components minimize downtime and reduce maintenance requirements.
