摘要

Fishing ground, fishing season and stock abundance of fisheries resources should be grasped and managed efficiently for a continuous utilization. Japanese common squid (Todarades Pacificus) are selected for target species since it is one of the important fisheries resources for food supply as a potential protein and also its migration route is not fully understood. The operation of squid fishing in Japan is characterized by using lights equipped on fleets at night. Those lights distribution is identified from nighttime OLS(Operational Linescan System) images of the DMSP(Defense Meteorological Satellite Program). We examined the relationship between squid distribution generated from OLS images and environmental factors such as sea surface temperature, thermal fronts, color fronts, and bottom topography, through the year of 1998. As a result, light distributions observed by DMSP/OLS distribute mostly along the coast of Korea, in Tsushima Strait and along the polar front formed about 40°N from east to west of Japan/East Sea. There is some tendency that Color front was seen in the cold water side.
